Dear residents this weeks round up from Foleshill Neighbourhood Police Team
Here is a roundup of what the Foleshill Neighbourhood team officers have been doing this week.
OUR Priorities
Our priorities are now business crime; this is an issue all over the Northeast and officers are proactively patrolling the affected areas. We have officers in plain clothes as well as in hi visibility uniform.
Officers are carrying out dedicated retail crime patrols and plain clothes operations to provide reassurance to shop keepers, deter anti-social behaviour and address concerns raised by the community. Alongside these the dedicated retail crime patrols are focusing on supporting local shops, tackling shop theft and working closely with shop staff to prevent repeat offences. This week we were called to an incident of 3 persons acting suspicious and causing anti social behaviour, upon officers arrival and finding out the situation two females were arrested for robbery and enquiries will be ongoing.
IN OTHER NEWS
Celebrations have been taking place across the West Midlands this month to mark Vaisakhi, with more planned for the coming weeks. The festival, one of the most important dates in the Sikh calander, celebrates the founding of Khalsa in 1699, seen as the birth of the religion's community. The anniversary itself fell on 14 April this year, but tens of thousands will be coming together for colourful parades and festivals this month and into May.
On Sunday, about 10,000 people filled the streets of Foleshill, for a parade from Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash on Harnall Lane West. Starting from 10:00, celebrations began with a donation ceremony, before drummers in traditional clothing lead floats and people on foot on an anti-clockwise circular route, with free refreshments along the way.
Dr Bikram Singh, medical coordinator for the event, said he had grown up seeing the annual celebration get "bigger and bigger". "It inspires me to see how the Sikh community work both together and with other local communities to make the event such a success," he said. The day was a massive success and the Foleshill Police Team were very honoured to be part of it.
This week also saw the promotion of Coventry City Football Club to the premiership. Sunday saw the last home game of the season for the Sky Blues. This was a win over Wrexham and then the lifting of the trophy and continued celebrations. The city was filled with sky blue fans and families who continued to celebrate into the evening. All fans were in high spirits and no known trouble was reported.
